Charcoal Drawing

I haven't posted anything in quite a few days but I have been working on several projects. This morning around 4am I woke and started thinking of a new Mixed Media painting and since I couldn't get back to sleep I decided to start my day early. Putting coffee on first and then taking my shower and getting the chores out of the way so I could go straight to my art with the new project. All of this time I had not thought of the idea I had had at that hour of the morning. What terrifying feeling when I got to my art table and could not remember what it was I had thought of and had already worked out in my mind, in the early morning. I think I must have been half asleep but fortunately as the day has gone by the idea came back to me. I am setting out to start it right now but in the meantime I will post this charcoal drawing I did for the Weekly Drawing Thread at Wet Canvas.

Mary,

This is a wonderful drawing. You capture the essence of comfort here. Very, very nice.

Ummm... I've been up since 4am and have accomplished nothing! And a studio full of 'good ideas' in progress downstairs, just waiting... must change my ways.

Robin, thank you for your always encouraging comments.

Karen, thank you for this visit it means a lot to me. Both you and Robin have never-ending creativity.

That is an excellent drawing - I love how the light pours in and leads the eye through the scene.

Your post also made me think about artist's IDEAS... They come any time, any place, and sometimes two or more at a time - it can be really hard to not only remember them, but to connect to them as they are happening. I feel like I must have a hundred or more creative impulses a day, and if I'm lucky, I'll actually act on one of them!

Great drawing!

I am constantly having ideas slip in and out of my mind. Problem is, they usually come into my mind at the worst possible moments. Glad to hear that the idea is coming back for you.

Thank you Jessica and Paula. Yes I also have the thoughts come to me when I'm no where to do anything about them and when I get home I forget them. I have three started from what the thought was, but now they are evolving to something else.

The more I paint and draw, the more I get impulses to start on a new one many times when I am already engaged and painting.
Thank you for visiting my blog and taking the time to comment.

Mary - this is a beautiful charcoal drawing. Well worth waiting for!

What is it about 4 am that wakes is up ... do our body clocks go haywire after a certain age?

Thank you for the visit Diane, Lesly, Robin and Pilan. Robin I will take your suggestion and start jotting ideas down, so far in my desperate attempt to remember I started three, two which are almost finished so now I just have to hope for the flow of ideas to continue.

Love the drawing Mary...you really captured the light beautifully!

I have those moments...why does that happen? Wake up from a deep sleep, thoughts racing. I carry a little notebook in my purse to write down moments of brilliance (or at least that's what it feels like at the time), but I always forget to put it on my nightstand for those wake up in the middle of the night moments.
