Peaches and Cloth Study

One of the interesting things about this pastel technique of Michael Newberry, is that it should be done on dark paper and depending the color of the paper the result of course, can be quite different. This one is on burgundy Canson paper but my goal should be to get the cloth quite dark since in my set up for my painting there is no light hitting the cloth. This one is still too light so I will try over another color next time and a different pastel color also.

Billie, thank you! I am satisfied with this one, I think after so many cloth studies I guess the cloth begins to look like cloth. :)

Hi Mary. Thanks for the comment on my blog. If you ever want to use the photos on my blog, feel free. I just haven't posted them to the RIL yet. I have been taking about a hundred on our plein air outings so haven't been able to catch up on sharing them.

Beautiful colors in this one.

Babs thank you for the comment, the studio is a nice place to work and I love having all my favorite things around me but that does cause some clutter.:)

Jeanne, I am imagine how much fun you have on those Plei Air outings, the landscape is beautiful.

Jeanette, your comment is a very encouraging. You are an expert and this kind of art.

Hi Mary. I agree with Billie, it may not be as you planned but it is lovely. Working through the preliminaries to beginning a new painting can be challenging. Im coming to appreciate, however, how many problems are solved in advance and how much we learn through the process. I used to just start painting. Now I do five to ten preliminary studies--sometimes more. So hang in there and enjoy the journey.

You are so right Sue about the importance of the preliminary studies and it pays in the long run when you see the outcome of the main piece.

This is beautiful Mary. I see a leap of knowledge in your pastel work. You are thinking less about each stroke, and now the shapes are being created with your colors. Lovely

Thank your Robin, for the nice comment. I also found out it is easier to work on a big surface than those small ones I was working on.

Mary, what strides you have made in your pastel studying. I am so very impressed with the skills you are working at developing. I'm interested in seeing where all this takes you. :) YOu have several mediums are you very skilled in.

By your NY workshop with M.N. you will have learned a lot. Are you counting down to the days?
