Magenta or Purple

Both colors are on my list of favorites and I guess one is a hot pink and the other is a deep violet. Anyway it is a joy to try to find the right one for my grisaille painting and at the same time try to learn this technique that has a new mystery everytime I have a session with Michael Newberry. It is so much more complicated to finding what color looks good next to another in pastel and how warm and cool colors will at the end either make or break your piece, depending on how you have chosen and placed them in it. I still have quite a bit to learn and I think only with practice, will the choices be made right.

Looking gorgeous, Mary. I've been wondering exactly how Michael does it too. I look forward to more of these.

Thank you Robyn! I still feel that I don't quite have it yet but I do plan to do many and keep posting them.

Mary, I too am struggling to understand Michael's pastel approach. I'm used to the lay it on and smear it around way of working with pastels. It is a wonderful challange--one I hope we better understand after the workshop in September. Your vase is lovely and I very much enjoyed the picture of your studio with the wonderful plants. I lingered there a bit to take it all in.

Thank you Sue! I had never done anything in pastel and even holding the pastel in my hand has been tricky but I agree we will benefit greatly from Michaels workshop in September.

These are two of my favorite colors together...reminds me of a screaming sunset over the lake where we vacation :-) Beautiful, Mary!

Sounds like an interesting session with Michael.

I love all the colors you've used in your painting, Mary! Purple, magenta, orange - it all works together.

I'm sure all will be revealed in time Mary and you're a more than willing student too. You'll absorb it and put it into action.

I too love the colours in this piece, they're so vibrant. It is a unique technique for pastel but so effective too. Makes me want to get out my pastels too.
