In the meantime.

Mixed Media on MDF board 2x2 ft.

I am working hard on the oil grisaille of my peaches painting but I would like to post the grisaille as soon as I have the weaving of the bowl finished.

I feel very flattered when people mention liking my abstracts as Philip did in one of his comments. What happens to me with abstracts is that I have never had any training in painting an abstract and they are completely instinctive. I never can plan an abstract, I have to face a blank canvas and think color first and then let the painting take me. I never know in what direction or how far and I question myself all of the time about this not being the correct way. My experience with Mixed Media helps me in knowing what material and mediums work together and which don't, but at the end I am always haunted by the same dilemma.

Thanks for the mention Mary! I am very plesed to see another of your abstracts and love the colours in this. I have no training either and I don't think that it is possible to teach art anyway. As far as I can see, you have taught yourself well and you are a master of abstract work. I have seen some wonderful work on your site!I do hope that you continue to produce more!

My approach to abstract work is much the same as yours by the way!

Thank you Philip! I think this one can be improved with some red through the very dark so I will continue to play with it. I have heard of several people that do abstracts in this manner, so I guess we are not alone.

Your abstracts are what originally drew me to your blog, Mary! They're fantastic. Your grisaille paintings are wonderful too, but I love the vibrancy and energy of your abstracts best.

Mary,

I wrote a comment the other night that just disappeared in front of my eyes. I'll try again.

I am joining the chorus of voices that celebrate your abstract work. You are immensely talented (and kind), but it is your abstracts that I always look for and am most delighted to find.

This "completely instinctive" work seems to come straight from the soul and is all the more meaningful for that starting place.

I come back often to see what you have added. I enjoy your art work immensely. This abstract is captivating. it breathes; it moves... it has its own energy. Your choice for texture and colors is outstanding.

Mary - yes yes yes - you cannot leave the abstracts behind. You are so very good at them. Your use of colour and texture is so intuitive. Wonderful!

Thank you, Anita! I tried to give my blog a new face and now I have lost things so I will play around with it, hope I don't lose the whole blog.:)

I tend to gravitate towards more intuitive, spontaneous abstracts more than overly thought out or planned creations, myself, so the description of your process sounds perfect to me! I LOVE your work and this piece has such a deep richness about it. There is a wonderful, mysterious warm energy - great work!

This is a super example of a great abstract,IMHO!
I am not sure that abstraction CAN be taught.I took classes in abstract oils, and everything produced in the class looked just like the instructor's work. It's such a personal, individual thing,I think more of a feeling than anything else. YOUR intuitive feeling,,,not someone else's idea of what's 'good' or not.Abstract on, friend!Babs

Thank you Babs, that is the way I feel abstract art and once I try to think it out, then I ruin it. Your words encourage me.

see, what have I been telling you!!

you MUST continue your abstract painting. Its who you are and who we know you as. :)

I am not saying in the least your realism is nothing to talk about, but to say you are accomplishing both sides most excellent.
