Bottle and silk satin still life study

When I first set this up, my idea was to paint an almost white painting but when I put the light on the set up, the satin and bottle both took up so many different colors, that it was a little overpowering and confusing. I don't know what suggestions will be made by Michael Newberry yet because this is one of several that I am getting together for our next session. I have tried to stay away from glass because it just seems so much more difficult to convey with paint than it is with graphite or charcoal. So this was a challenge that will seduce me to try painting more glass in oil.

I think this is very successful Mary. The glass looks real and the satin is wonderful. I don't know if I'd have the patience to paint all that fabric. I'm impressed.

I agree with Jeanette - the glass is very definitely glass and the fabric is gorgeous.

Thank you Jeanette, I think that from painting fabric on the peaches painting that took me almost a year I began to like it but white was a real challenge and I had never tried glass in oil.

Anita, I'm glad you liked it, I rubbed it out once and then that seemed to make it easier with the glass but I want to work more of these until I get my colors and reflections better.

Mary, i concur with the other comments. your glass looks glassy and your satin looks satiny. i like the green against the gold, too!

Beautiful glass, Mary. What a challenge you set yourself and what a triumph pulling it off.

Hi Mary. Very nice. I wouldn't have the patience at all to do that fabric. I have a hard time with whites. If I use gray sometimes they turn out looking dirty. Seems you have it down.

Robyn, Billie, Jeanne, Lesly and Elis, Sorry I hadn't thanked you all for your encouraging comments, I don't know how that happened but I always appreciate them very much.
